DEPARTMENT OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Day was celebrated on 13th February 2026 at Navodaya Dental College and Hospital, organized collectively by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in association with the management of the college. The CDE programme and hands-on workshop titled “Incision: The Beginning of Surgical Thinking” was conducted on this occasion.

The programme commenced at the AV Hall, Central Library, NET Campus, from 09:00 AM to 1:00PM. The academic session focused on developing fundamental surgical thinking, understanding principles of incision, minor oral surgical procedures, radiological evaluation in surgical planning, and management of common surgical complications.

The session included insightful lectures delivered by Dr. Chitra Chakravarthy on “Know Your Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon,” Dr. Chethan Babu V on “Minor Oral Surgical Procedures & Management of Complications,” and Dr. Santosh Kumar S.M on “Radiological Evaluation in Minor Oral Surgery.” The deliberations emphasized the importance of precise incision planning as the cornerstone of successful surgical outcomes.

The afternoon session comprised a hands-on workshop conducted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for BDS undergraduate students (III year, IV year, and interns). The workshop provided practical training in basic suturing techniques and demonstration of impaction procedures on 3D printed models, enabling students to gain simulated surgical exposure and enhance their clinical skills.

The event was graced by Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, NET; Dr. Amruth Reddy, Director of Operations, NET; Dr. Girish Katti, Principal, NDC; Dr. Chitra Chakravarthy, Professor and Head, department of oral and maxillofacial surgery;  Dr. Santosh Kumar S.M, Professor,department of oral and maxillofacial surgery and Dr. Chethan Babu V, resource person , along with faculty members, OMFS postgraduate students, and undergraduate students of the institution.

In addition to the academic programme, fun games and interactive activities were conducted on 12th February 2026 in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, fostering team spirit and enthusiastic participation among students and faculty.

The celebration successfully highlighted the significance and evolving scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while strengthening the academic and practical foundation of budding dental surgeons.
