Awareness Programme on Environment Protection and Its Laws

The NSS Unit of Navodaya Dental College, Raichur, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), organized an Awareness Programme on Environmental Protection and Environmental Laws on 26th September 2025 at A.V Hall, Central Library, NET. The event aimed to educate and sensitize interns and postgraduate students about the importance of environmental conservation, the legal framework surrounding environmental protection in India and the vital role of healthcare professionals in sustainable waste management, particularly biomedical waste.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session where the dignitaries were formally invited to the dais followed by watering the plant. Dr. Girish Katti, Principal, Navodaya Dental College, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of educational initiatives in shaping environmentally responsible healthcare professionals. Dr. Zaheer Ahmed, Professor and NSS Programme Officer, introduced the keynote speaker and briefed the audience on the objectives of the programme.
The keynote address was delivered by Smt. Shylaja V. Amingad, Deputy Environmental Officer, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. She provided a comprehensive overview of:

The session was very informative and thought-provoking, encouraging active participation and queries from the students.
The programme concluded at 4:30 PM with a formal Vote of Thanks by Dr. Zaheer Ahmed, who expressed gratitude to the guest speaker, dignitaries, faculty, students and the organizing team for their support and enthusiastic participation. The awareness programme successfully met its objective of sensitizing future healthcare professionals to the importance of environmental conservation and their legal and ethical responsibilities. Participants gained valuable insights into environmental laws and the critical role of biomedical waste management in healthcare settings.
The programme was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Zaheer, expressing gratitude to the Guests and Students for making the event successful. The event ended with the National Anthem, after which guests and attendees were invited for Hi-Tea.
