ANTI-RAGGING ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
NAVODAYA DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL, RAICHUR
Navodaya Dental College and Hospital, Raichur organized an Anti-Ragging Orientation Programme/Workshop on 9th December 2025 at the S.R. Hegde Silver Jubilee Auditorium, NET Campus, Raichur. The event was attended by dignitaries, faculty members, students, and all stakeholders.
Dr. Shivsharan Shetty, Member, Dental Council of India (DCI), New Delhi and Syndicate Member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Resource Person for the Workshop.
Other dignitaries invited include, Dr P Vijaykumar, director, Institutional promotions and Student Affairs, Navodaya Education trust, Raichur, Dr Girish Katti, Principal, Navodaya dental college and Hospital, Raichur and the Presiding officer for the program, Mr Phanindra Patil, Advocate, Legal Advisory Team, Navodaya Education trust, Raichur and Mr Suryaprakash, PSI, Netaji Police Station, Raichur. Mr. Dheerendra covered the program and published in Raichur Vani Newspaper.
The programme commenced with the Nadageete, Karnataka State Anthem. This was followed by inviting the dignitaries onto the dais.
Dr. Vanishree M, Professor and Head, Department of Oral Pathology, delivered the welcome address.
The ceremonial lamp was lit by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, marking the official inauguration of the programme.
Dr. Suresh Babu, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, introduced the Chief Guest and Resource Person, highlighting his achievements.
Dr. Shivsharan Shetty, DCI Member and Syndicate Member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru who was the Chief Guest and resource Person for the program, emphasized on the need to cultivate mutual respect and human values among students. He stressed that human values are greater than education alone. He motivated the fresh students to adjust with the new surrounding and the people and senior students to take care of the fresh students as if they are their brothers and sisters. He urged both the seniors and fresh students to be grounded in respect, empathy and discipline.
Guest of Honour, Dr. P. Vijay Kumar, Director, IP&SA, NET, proudly stated that Navodaya has been a ragging-free campus for the last two decades. He emphasized the importance of communication, understanding, and mutual respect among all the students for a healthy environment to prevail in the Campus.
Mr. Phanindra Patil, Advocate, Navodaya Legal Advisory Team, NET, created awareness among students regarding the legal implications and punishments related to ragging. He said that, under the law of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Ragging is a punishable offence and it is always better to be away from Ragging.
Mr. Suryaprakash, PSI, Netaji Police Station, Raichur, spoke to the students and stated that students need not have to tolerate ragging if at all it happens and they every right to say NO to the seniors.
A formal felicitation ceremony was held in honor of the Chief Guest, Dr. Shivsharan Shetty, DCI Member, by the dignitaries.
Dr. Girish Katti, Principal, Navodaya Dental College, in his Presidential address, urged students to contribute to creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming campus environment. He emphasized the seniors that they are the role models for the freshers and thus not to show dominance, rather welcome the freshers with happiness, as though we welcome a newborn child at home. He inspired all to build a community together where students uplift one another where diversity is respected and compassion is the foundation of every interaction. He emphasized that a Ragging free campus is not just an Institutional requirement, it is our shared responsibility.
The Principal, presented mementos to the dignitaries on the dias, for taking out time and sharing their experience with the students.
Dr. Anila K, Associate Professor, Department of Oral Pathology, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
The programme was concluded with the National Anthem.
